Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik found to be sane and can now face prison

Self-confessed killer Anders Breivik has been ruled sane by psychiatrists ahead of his upcoming trial for the bomb and shooting rampage he undertook on July 22 last year in Norway.

Earlier diagnosis said Breivik should be committed to a mental institution instead of prison should he be found guilty.

New assessments were made by psychiatrists Terje Toerrissen and Agnar Aspaas after a request from the court following widespread criticism against the first diagnosis.

Both assessments will be taken into account when the trial starts in six days time.

Toerrissen said: “Our conclusion is that he is not psychotic at the time of the actions of terrorism and he is not psychotic now.”

Breivik has already confessed to the attacks but denies criminal guilt claiming his attacks were necessary in what he calls ‘a civil war against Islam and Europe’.

The new assessment now may make it possible for the killer to face Jail as opposed to a mental institute.
