Widespread condemnation after 90-year-old man pays $17,500 dowry to marry 15-year-old girl in Saudi Arabia
The recent marriage of a 90-year-old Saudi man to a 15-year-old girl has sparked condemnation from human rights and social media activists in the kingdom.
On Twitter especially, activists criticized the parents of the girl for giving her to a man decades older than her.
In an interview, the groom insisted that his marriage was “legal and correct,” and that he paid a $17,500 (SAR 65,000) dowry to marry the girl, who is the daughter of a Yemeni father and Saudi mother.
The 90-year-old told the story of his first night with the bride. He said she entered the bedroom before him, and she locked the door from inside so he could not enter. This, he said, made him “suspicious about some kind of conspiracy” by the girl and her mother. Click below for full story -

Although this is a sickening story about how the girl was betrayed by her family and forced into a marriage, I am so happy she looked herself in a room and wasn’t raped by him
How on earth could parents do this to a child.
They have no morales and clearly dont love their daughter.
How can any sums of money justify selling a daughter to a man old enough to be her great grandfather.
I dont really believe this story, how did the girl lock herself in the room for 2 days and then escape?
Surely she could have just walked out without needing to lock herself?
The man was in his 80s, what could he possibly do to stop her. He would have had a heart attack.

Saudi Arabia is notorious for having no respect for women. This story does not surprise me. I bet this kind of abuse happens all the time across the middle east and Pakistan.
Thankfully the girl was unharmed and didn’t get raped and wasn’t forced to give her virginity to him

The irony in this story is that the girl ran back to the people that betrayed her the most.

We all know Saudi Arabia doesn’t respect women. Not even the women there respect other women. The kingdom has no hope of progression when things like this still occur in the 21st century
